Research

High-Energy Physics

The study of physics at extreme energy scales, including work on quantum gravity and connections with quantum information.

Quantum Algorithms & Applications

The design of new quantum algorithms and the application of existing algorithms to novel applications, including in simulation, optimization, and machine learning.

Quantum Chemistry

The study of the quantum-mechanical underpinnings of chemistry.

Quantum Computing Systems & Architecture

The study of how to compose quantum computers out of fundamental hardware building blocks (qubit devices and their associated classical control hardware) and various layers of abstraction above the raw hardware.

Quantum Information Hardware & Devices

Study and development of quantum hardware, including qubits and control techniques for quantum information processing, networking, and sensing.

Quantum Information Theory

The study of the quantification, storage, and communication of quantum information, with the qubit as the quantum generalization of the classical bit.

Quantum Materials (Experiments)

Experimental study of materials whose key properties cannot be explained by classical theories.

Quantum Materials (Theory)

Theoretical study of materials whose key properties cannot be explained by classical theories.

Quantum Optics

The study of the quantum nature of light and applications to quantum technology, including computing, communication, and sensing.

Quantum Sensing

The application of quantum systems to constructing more sensitive or more compact sensors of physical properties or fields, such as temperature, distance/displacements, electric fields, and magnetic fields.

Quantum Simulation

The application of quantum systems to simulating other quantum systems or paradigmatic quantum-mechanical models (such as the Hubbard model). Work on quantum simulations covers both analog and digital quantum simulators.
